Do I Need A Computer Network In My
Home?
________________________________________
Here are a few reasons why you may answer yes.
You tell us if you need a network.
|
(1) Share your internet access. You can have multiple computers
on the internet simultaneously. Let me give you an example of this.
You are on line researching that new car while your kids are voting
someone off the island of the latest reality show and your wife
is e-mailing a family member.
(2) Share peripherals such as printers. A good laser printer will
provide service for your entire family for years. You will be able
to print to that one printer from anywhere in your home.
(3) Take advantage of all the latest network capabilities built
into today's software including shared scheduling, shared databases
(even simple ones for home finances) and games. Yes Games, remember
all of the new games are internet enabled so you can play against
your friends around the world. |
If you have made the investment to have several computers in your
home, then a network will allow you to maximize your investment
and minimize additional expenses.

Getting Started: Connecting Your
Devices
Usually, we can connect your computers to your network without any
additions to the computer itself. Most newer computers have the
Ethernet adapters already installed. If yours needs one, we can
put it in. After connecting your computers to the network, we will
do a little bit of software configuration and BAMO! You're off and
surfing the information super-highway.

Broadband Internet Distribution
Broadband (high-speed) Internet. This is the most common reason
for interest in home LAN's (Local Area Networks) today. With Cable
and DSL access now available in most areas, why limit your internet
access to just one computer? The two main options available for
sharing access in your home are hard-wired and wireless. We suggest
that you use hardwire jacks for any computers that are going to
be stationary (like your office) and plan for wireless access points
for laptops and other computers that may move around your home.
Off the shelf wireless systems are great if your home is under 1500
sq/ft. If you home is larger you should consider some hardwire locations
and Wireless access points. We will help with you with this design.
|
File & Printer Sharing
Another advantage of a home LAN is the ability to share your files
and printers with the other computers on your network. No more running
disks around the house to print homework or work files, or having
to go to your home office to check your latest bank balances, you
will be able to access the information from anywhere in your home. |
